A 17-year-old girl and a 20-year-old man were seriously injured Sunday night in a single-vehicle crash on the westbound Blackburn Hamlet Bypass.

The crash happened just before 7 p.m. between Navan Road and the eastern intersection at Innes Road.

Paramedics said a sedan left the road and crashed into a large cement pole. The force of the crash ejected both victims.

The girl, who had been riding in the front passenger seat, was treated for spinal injuries and taken to the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, where she was listed in serious condition.

The man, who had been driving, suffered multi-system trauma including serious head injuries. He was taken to The Ottawa Hospital's Civic campus trauma centre where he was listed in critical condition.

The westbound lanes of the bypass were closed from Navan Road to Innes Road at the eastern end of Blackburn Hamlet, and reopened by 10 p.m.

Police are investigating.
