Gatineau pedestrian struck after parking dispute

A woman in her 20s is in hospital after she was struck by a sport utility vehicle driven by another woman in Gatineau as each were fighting over an illegal parking spot.

An ongoing parking dispute on a Gatineau street led to a woman allegedly running into a pedestrian with her vehicle, police say.

Officers say at 4:10 p.m. police responded to a call for a serious injury involving a pedestrian in her 20s at 19 Lois St.

They say another woman in her 20s struck the woman with a sport-utility vehicle after attempting to park illegally several times. The crash victim's mother had fought with the driver before the incident over the parking issue, police added.

Police then say the woman was struck while trying to block the SUV.

Witnesses lifted the vehicle off the woman and she was transported to hospital with serious, non life-threatening injuries.

The driver was arrested but later released without any charges. Police continue to investigate and officers were set to interview witnesses.
