Garbage worker dies after Tuesday collision
Victim identified as 46-year-old Rocco D'Angelo
A garbage truck worker who was hit by an SUV on Greenbank Road Tuesday afternoon has died in hospital.
At about 12:45 pm, an SUV hit the worker south of Barrhaven between Barnsdale and Viewbank roads.
Paramedics said the man suffered critical head injuries and was unconscious when they arrived.
He was rushed to hospital, where he died at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
A fellow employee has identified him as Rocco D'Angelo, 46. D'Angelo was working through The Labour Group for garbage collection company R.W. Tomlinson Ltd. of Ottawa.
Dale Harley of R.W. Tomlinson said he and the company regret what happened and said this is the first time an employee has ever been hit by a vehicle.
The driver of the car remained at the scene and police said it's too early in the investigation to determine whether charges will be laid.
