Foul play not suspected in fatal Almonte fire
Family says victim Joyce Gibson, 67, had lived in home for 40 years
Ontario Provincial Police say foul play is not suspected after a 67-year-old grandmother was killed in a fire at her home near Almonte on Thursday morning.
Joyce Gibson had lived in the Ottawa Valley home on Gibson Road just off Wolf Grove Road for 40 years, her older sister Harriet Riddell said. She had a son and grandchild but lived alone, she added.
She used to work at the woollen mill in Lanark, Riddell said.
Riddell said the feeling of loss is familiar — she said her other sister took her own life in 1972.
"I've lost two sisters tragically, suicide and now the fire, it is just too much," she said.
Lanark County OPP were called to the home around 8:30 a.m. Thursday after firefighters found a body inside.
Police said the home was mostly destroyed and representatives of the Ontario Fire Marshal's office had visited the scene.
On Saturday, police said foul play was not suspected.
