A fire destroyed a sleeping cabin at the MacSkimming Outdoor Education Centre between Cumberland and Clarence-Rockland.

The fire at 3200 Wilhaven Dr. broke out before 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. By the time firefighters arrived, the cabin was engulfed in flames.

Damage to the cabin and its contents is estimated at about $60,000. No one was hurt.

The fire department is investigating what caused the fire.

MacSkimming is a 162-hectare outdoor education centre owned by the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, which teaches outdoor and pioneering skills.

About 25 students were sleeping in another area of the centre overnight, according to centre's co-ordinator.
