It is one of a group of buildings used by neighbourhood kids as a hangout and has also been the scene of a number of recent fires, according to District 40 fire chief Perry Fee.

Firefighters and police responded to the fire at 1034 McGarry Terrace just before 6 p.m. on Monday. Damage is estimated at $125,000.

Fee said the buildings pose a safety hazard and said he'd like to see them knocked down.

"We would hate to see anybody get hurt in a place like this," said Fee.
