Mike Jefferies was driving his Yamaha motorcycle Saturday afternoon when it collided with a minivan in front of the St. Laurent Shopping Centre. He was found in cardiac arrest when paramedics arrived and was later pronounced dead at hospital.

Jefferies' wife Sandra, 53, was also on the bike when it crashed and suffered multi-system trauma. She was released from hospital soon after.

Both the motorcycle and the Dodge Caravan involved in the collision were headed southbound on St. Laurent Boulevard near the OC Transpo Transitway.

Investigators are trying to reconstruct the collision and they said they need witnesses to help. Anyone who saw the crash is asked to call Ottawa police at 613-236-1222, ext. 2481 or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477.

The funeral for Mike Jefferies is Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Vanier Community Church, also known as the Bikers' Church, at 155 Carillon Street.

There will also be a motorcycle procession starting at 1:30 p.m. at Kelly Funeral Home on St. Joseph Boulevard in Orleans.
