A family of eight, including six children, are homeless after an early morning fire destroyed their house in North Gower.
The fire at 2365 Callendor Rd. started just before 3 a.m. Tuesday. The fire department believes the fire started in the garage and spread to the inside of the house and the attic.
By the time firefighters arrived, everyone inside the house had managed to get outside safely with the family dog.
One firefighter was taken to hospital to be assessed for a minor injury. The father, who was standing outside, suffered some frostbite on his feet.
The children are between the ages of four and 15.
Damage is estimated at about $400,000. Two vehicles close to the fire were also destroyed.
Fire officials are trying to determine what caused the fire.
