A 48-year-old man from the east Ottawa community of Orleans has been charged with sexually assaulting a teenage girl.

Ontario Provincial Police in Bancroft, Ont., a three-hour drive west of Ottawa, say they received a report of a sexual assault in the area on Wednesday.

Officers believe a 15-year-old girl was sexually assaulted. Police then arrested the 48-year-old man from Orleans.

He has been charged with sexual assault of a person under 16 years old and sexual interference of a person under 16 years old.

The man was released from custody with conditions on a promise to appear in a Bancroft court on Sept. 23.
