East Ottawa head-on crash kills 1, injures 7 others
One person was killed and seven others were injured in a head-on crash in Ottawa’s east end.
Firefighters, paramedics and police officers responded to a crash where Montreal Road turns into St-Joseph Boulevard, near Bearbrook Road, at about 11:20 p.m. Saturday.
The two vehicles, an SUV and a car, were severely damaged leaving people trapped. Firefighters extricated three people by removing the doors of each vehicle.
The lone victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Ottawa police are not releasing the victim’s name or any other details about the person at the request of the family.
7 people taken to hospital
Paramedics also treated seven people for various injuries.
A man in his 20s suffered a life-threatening head injury and a pelvic fracture. He is currently in hospital in critical condition.
A 92-year-old woman also broke her arm, leg and pelvis and she was taken to hospital in serious condition, while a woman in her 60s suffered a head injury and she was also reported in serious condition.
Paramedics took four others to hospital in stable condition:
- Man in his 60s with chest and back injuries.
- Man in his 60s with minor chest injuries.
- Woman in her 40s with minor injuries.
- Woman, 64, with minor injuries.
The road was closed for several hours but it reopened Sunday morning. Ottawa police are investigating
