Eight people were charged with distracted driving during an Ottawa police traffic sting that lasted under two hours Thursday.

Four others were charged for seatbelt infractions.

The cell phone infraction sting comes a week after 39 drivers were charged with distracted driving during various stings last week.

Some of the drivers were caught with their phones in their laps while stopped at red lights, and some didn't know that's against the law.

First-time offenders were charged $155.
