Demolition orders to be issued for fire-damaged apartments
2 of 3 Gilmour Street buildings damaged by Jan. 12 fire no longer habitable
Two buildings heavily damaged by a fire earlier this month will soon be demolished after Ottawa fire officials deemed them uninhabitable.
A late-night, multi-building fire at three buildings on Gilmour Street, in the city's Centretown neighbourhood, left as many as 15 people homeless.
They can’t issue the order until the building’s owner is back in Canada, according to Marc Messier, spokesman for Ottawa Fire Services.
Damage was estimated at $1.5 million to the three buildings.
The cause was believed to be a candle.
