The Ottawa Redblacks have signed middle linebacker Damaso Munoz to a two-year contract extension, the team announced Friday.

The 29-year-old Miami native recorded a team-leading 74 tackles in 2015 — good for 11th in the league — as well as four sacks and three forced fumbles.

He also intercepted a pass against the Toronto Argonauts on Sep. 26 and returned it for a 40-yard touchdown.

Munoz began his CFL career in 2011 with the Edmonton Eskimos. He joined the Redblacks during their inaugural season in 2014 after being cut during the NFL preseason by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Munoz would have been eligible for free agency next month, the team said in a release.
