Cyclist killed in Hwy 17 crash outside Petawawa

A 47-year-old man from Chalk River, Ont., is dead after his bicycle collided with a tractor trailer on Highway 17 outside Petawawa this morning.

A cyclist is dead after colliding with a tractor trailer on Highway 17's eastbound lanes outside Petawawa this morning, Ontario Provincial Police confirm.

The crash along the Trans-Canada Highway happened just west of Paquette Road at about 6:30 a.m.

Kevin Malott, 47, of Chalk River, Ont., was pronounced dead at the scene, OPP said.

The driver of the tractor trailer, 53-year-old Rodger Chapman of Morrisburg, Ont., was not injured.

The highway reopened Monday afternoon after police had closed it for much of the day while they investigated.
