Cyclist fighting for his life after Woodroffe Avenue crash

A 19-year-old man is fighting for his life in hospital after he was struck by a vehicle early Saturday in Ottawa's west end.

A 19-year-old man is fighting for his life in hospital after a vehicle struck him while he was cycling in Ottawa’s west end early Saturday morning.

Police and paramedics say they were called to the intersection of Woodroffe Avenue and Knoxdale Road at about 2:45 a.m.

Paramedics said the man suffered serious head injuries in the crash and he was rushed to hospital where he arrived in critical condition.

The driver was not injured, but stayed at the scene after the crash and he is co-operating with police, officials said.

Police closed all lanes of Woodroffe between Knoxdale and Medhurst Drive for several hours but reopened the road just before 10 a.m.
