Cyclist dies in Kanata collision
An 18-year-old cyclist has died after his bike collided with a light standard near Castlefrank Road and Hazeldean Road in Kanata.
Ottawa paramedics said the male cyclist was riding on MacNeil Court when he struck a light pole. Paramedics were called to the scene at 3:26 p.m. and found the young man unconscious.
They put him in an ambulance for transport to a hospital, but while en route he went into cardiac arrest and they were unable to resuscitate him. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
It's not clear if the cyclist was wearing a helmet.
Ottawa police are investigating and have closed Castlefrank Road between Hazeldean Road and McCurdy Drive.
