CTV Ottawa to cut 34 positions
The union representing administrative and technical workers at CTV Ottawa said Bell Media is cutting 19 full-time positions and another 15 part-time staff at the television station.
Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada national representative Dave Lewington said the jobs are mostly in technical, operations and production areas.
"People are angry and they are upset," said Lewington.
"[CTV Ottawa] is a profitable company and it's always been a profitable company and it's been a family-oriented station in terms of the management of the past. Management has a right to bring in these changes if that's what they determine to do, but it really does adversely impact people and was it really necessary to make these changes?"
Lewington said the employees will be offered severance packages.
The notification comes after Bell Media's announcement last week of 16 layoffs of managers and radio employees at its Ottawa stations.
