The Transportation Safety Board is investigating after a CP Rail freight train hit a dump truck at a level train crossing in the small town of Perth, Ont., early Monday morning.

It happened at the intersection of Wilson Street West at about 3:30 a.m.

Ontario Provincial Police in Lanark County said the driver of the dump truck was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The train, which was loaded with cargo, stayed on the tracks after the crash. A small amount of diesel fuel spilled onto the ground and was later cleaned up by Perth firefighters.

Wilson Street and Drummond Street were closed until 11 a.m.

The cause of the crash is being investigated, and OPP said alcohol did not play a role.

The Transportation Safety Board sent an investigator to the scene Monday.
