Ottawa paramedics say a "medical event" likely led to a single-vehicle crash in Barrhaven Sunday afternoon that critically injured the driver.

'Medical event' likely cause of crash involving 62-year-old man, paramedics say

Ottawa paramedics say a medical event likely caused a 62-year-old man driving down a Barrhaven street to hit a post Sunday afternoon, leaving him with critical injuries.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Fallowfield Drive and Greenbank Road just before 4:30 p.m. EST, paramedics said.

When they arrived they said they found the man without a pulse being given CPR by firefighters.

Paramedics said they were able to get his heart beating again and the man woke up en route to hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

Ottawa police are on scene and have closed the southbound lanes of Greenbank Road between Fallowfield Drive and Larkin Drive as they look into the crash and its cause.

Nobody else was injured.
