ATV rider dead, 3 teens hurt in western Quebec crashes

Two separate crashes in western Quebec left an ATV rider dead and three teenagers badly hurt, according to police.

A 26-year-old man is dead after two all-terrain vehicles crashed on a trail in Montcerf-Lytton, Que., just north of Maniwaki, on Saturday night

Quebec provincial police say the two ATVs were travelling on a designated trail in the Gatineau Valley, near Highway 105, when they collided.

The victim was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. There were no details on the other rider.

Police are investigating whether speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

Also at about 2 a.m. Sunday along Highway 105, three teenagers were injured in a single-vehicle crash near Wakefield.

MRC des Collines police say the 18-year-old driver and his two passengers, aged 15 and 16, were all badly hurt but their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The driver also managed to help his passengers out of the vehicle despite his injuries, police added.

Alcohol and drugs may have been factors in the crash, police say. They continue to investigate.
