A 31-year-old Ottawa man is facing charges including attempted murder, choking, forcible confinement and aggravated sexual assault after an incident earlier this month.

A female was "violently assaulted" at an Ottawa apartment on May 15, Ottawa police said in a media release issued Friday.

Mohamad Barkhadle was arrested and appeared in court Friday.

The charges laid against him are:

  • Attempted murder.
  • Aggravated sexual assault.
  • Forcible confinement.
  • Overcoming resistance by choking.
  • Uttering threats.
  • Breach of probation.
  • Failure to report as required.

Investigators are concerned there could be other victims, police said.
