Attempted murder charge laid after attack on woman

A 35-year-old Ottawa man is facing an attempted murder charge after an attack on a woman last week.

A 35-year-old Ottawa man has been charged with attempted murder after an attack on a woman last week.

A 27-year-old woman was walking on Bayview Road near Burnside Avenue on Oct. 22 around 2 p.m. when she was approached from behind and struck in the head with a hammer, according to the Crown.

The incident was nearly caught on camera.

She suffered minor injuries, according to police.

Nabil Benhsaien faces charges of attempted murder and has also been charged with breach of recognizance in connection with the attack.

He pleaded guilty in 2012 to two counts of theft under $5,000 for an incident which happened in 2011.

He is also facing charges of possessing marijuana.

On Thursday, Ottawa police said they were investigating potential links between this most recent attack and three similar, unsolved incidents in 2010 and 2011.

Ottawa police said more charges could be laid against Benhsaien as their investigation continues.
