Arson unit probing 2 suspicious south Ottawa garage fires
Elderly woman forced out of home due to damage from garage fire that spread to house
The Ottawa police arson unit is investigating two suspicious garage fires that happened early Sunday morning in the same south-end neighbourhood.
Firefighters responded to 968 Chapman Blvd. in Elmvale Acres just after 3:30 a.m. Sunday for a garage fire that had spread to a home.
Firefighters quickly doused the flames but the damage has forced an elderly woman out of her house.
While fire crews were responding to the fire on Chapman, firefighters noticed a second active garage fire around the corner at 2010 Othello Ave.
It appeared that garbage near the garage had been set on fire, and that the flames had spread to the garage.
Later Sunday morning, around 5 a.m., another fire was reported in a Sun newspaper box at the corner of Arch Street and Pleasant Park Road.
No one was hurt in any of the the three fires.
The investigation continues.
