Gatineau police say they are investigating the possibility of arson after a Saturday morning house fire at 14 Rue de Gaspé.

Emergency personnel were called to the home at about 9:06 a.m. Saturday and police evacuated people from their adjacent homes as firefighters put out the fire.

Gatineau police Const. Pierre Lanthier said police found a dead body in the home but said investigators could not yet link it to the fire investigation.

Lanthier said they found evidence leading them to suspect arson, but declined to provide details.

The building has been cordoned off to protect neighbours while police and fire service officials continue the investigation.
