The Ottawa Police Service's arson unit is investigating after two suspicious fires broke out late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

Fires broke out in Sandy Hill, near the St. Laurent Shopping Centre

Police are investigating two possible arsons that happened late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

Just after 10 p.m., firefighters were called to 320 Wiggins Private in the city's Sandy Hill neighbourhood after a caller reported a piece of carpet on fire outside.

The fire was out by the time crews arrived, said police.

Then at around 3 a.m., fire crews responded to a garage fire at 1550 Michael Street, a few blocks south of the St. Laurent Shopping Centre.

No one was hurt in the garage fire, said officials.

The police's arson unit is expected to be on Michael Street today, continuing their investigation.
