An arbitration panel has awarded Ottawa firefighters a 2.95 per cent pay raise for 2012, matching an increase given to Ottawa police.

City solicitor Rick O'Connor notified Ottawa city council of the decision Tuesday of an Interest Arbitration Panel chaired by Arbitrator Kevin Burkett.

The city and firefighters went to arbitration after they were unsuccessful in their attempts to reach a deal for 2012.

The panel also awarded a clause for the firefighters that will see their 2013 wage increases match whatever increase is given to the Ottawa Police Association members.
