Two young people are dead after a vehicle they were riding in left the road and struck a tree in North Glengarry Township early Sunday morning.

McCormick Road, Alexandria, ON

The crash happened at about 1 a.m. on McCormick Road near Alexandria, Ont.

Ontario Provincial Police said a 25-year-old man was driving east along the road when, for reasons so far unknown, the vehicle entered the ditch and struck a tree.

Two passengers — a 21-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman — were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to The Ottawa Hospital's Civic campus trauma unit by an air ambulance.

The names of the victims were not released.

Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry OPP officers are investigating.

Alexandria is about 100 kilometres southeast of Ottawa.
