The long-awaited Airport Parkway pedestrian bridge is scheduled to open in December.

Part of Ottawa's Airport Parkway will be closed for north-south commuters Tuesday night as crews work on the long-awaited pedestrian bridge.

The parkway closes Tuesday at 7 p.m. from Brookfield to Hunt Club roads so crews can finish installing the deck, work that closed an on-ramp Monday night.

Tuesday night's detour will take motorists along Brookfield Road, Riverside Drive and Hunt Club Road.

The bridge was supposed to be complete in 2011 but has had construction halted on more than one occasion, including being partially torn down and rebuilt in 2012 because of concerns over the concrete.

The bridge is scheduled to be finished in December.
