8 men charged after Ottawa police bust home takeover
Almost 40 charges laid from gun possession to drug possession to forcible confinement
Ottawa police have laid almost 40 charges against eight different men after they dismantled a home takeover in an area east of downtown, seizing two loaded guns and drugs.
Police say members of the Direct Action Response Team (DART) responded to a report of a home takeover in the 2000 block of Baycrest Drive at about 5 p.m. Thursday.
Once officers entered the apartment they found and seized two loaded handguns, ammunition, marijuana and crack cocaine.
Eight people were arrested and charged.
Charges laid range from possessing and concealing a weapon, to forcible confinement, to drug possession for the purpose of trafficking and possessing property obtained by crime under $5,000.
Each man was held in custody overnight Thursday and was scheduled for a show cause hearing in an Ottawa courtroom on Friday morning.
