Four teens have been charged in a string of gunpoint convenience store robberies in and around downtown Ottawa between January and April 2014.

Three 17-year-old boys and a 16-year-old boy have been arrested, police said. None can be named due to provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Three remain in custody, while the fourth was released on bail.

A trio — one armed with a gun — entered a convenience store on Preston Street near Somerset Street West on Jan. 10 just before 6 p.m., police said. While one pointed a gun at the store employee, the second grabbed cash and cigarettes, and the third stood lookout, police said. No one was injured.

On Jan. 14, a team of two entered a convenience store on Elm Street near Preston Street around 6 p.m., police said. One pointed a gun at the store employee while the second grabbed cigarettes and cash, police said. No one was injured.

On Jan. 16, a trio entered a convenience store on Fifth Avenue near Bronson Avenue around 7 p.m. and stole cash, police said. Two were armed with guns while the third remained at the door. No one was injured.

On April 2, a man armed with a gun entered a convenience store on Elm Street near Preston Street just after 9:30 p.m., police said. The man allegedly hit an employee on the head with the gun when the employee tried to stop him from taking cash from the register. The man dropped his weapon, which was later found to be an imitation gun, police said. The employee was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

  • Three counts of possession of a weapon in commission of an offence
  • Two counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited
  • One count of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence
  • One count of assault causing bodily harm

  • Two counts of breach of undertaking
  • Two counts of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence
  • One count of wearing a disguise
