Eleven people have been displaced from their apartments after a fire broke out inside a small two-storey building on Wednesday evening.
It happened at 176 Montfort St., near Montreal Road and the Vanier Parkway, at about 5:30 p.m. ET.
Firefighters received a "frantic" 911 call from a resident who saw open flames and smoke in the building, according to a news release.
By the time crews arrived, the second floor of the building was engulfed in flames.
All seven people from four apartments managed to get out safely and firefighters also rescued one dog and four cats. Also, four people from a neighbouring home were forced out because hydro had to be cut off overnight.
Power has been restored to that home, according to fire officials.
The fire was brought under control at about 7:30 p.m.
Total damages are estimated at about $450,000. No other homes were damaged in the fire. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
