A 45-minute police chase that began in Gatineau and continued into west Quebec has ended safely with the arrest of a 19-year-old Ontario man.
Gatineau police first started the pursuit at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday after they caught a man speeding in a stolen car. But after a few kilometres, police decided to ask provincial police to take over the chase.
The car was next spotted at a convenience store in Papineauville, Que., east of Gatineau, as seen in the video above.
Surêté du Quebec officers tried to block the suspect's vehicle but the one police cruiser was only able to sideswipe it.
The driver refused to stop and he took police to Grenville-sur-la-Rouge, Que., along Highway 148, about 100 km away from where Gatineau police first started the chase.
In total, there were dozens of police cruisers involved in the case and at one time, nine vehicles were following the suspect. Three vehicles were also damaged in the chase.
The man, who has a criminal record, will appear in court Thursday on charges including dangerous driving, avoiding arrest and assault with a weapon.
