Accessibility LinksThe Ontario Liberals will unveil their campaign platform on Monday as the race ahead of the Oct. 6 provincial election begins to heat up.
Campaign co-chair Greg Sorbara refused to reveal any details but called the Liberal platform “a serious plan for serious times.”
“The campaign is about to begin,” said Sorbara on Friday. “Stay tuned on Monday.”
Sorbara said jobs and education will be the platform’s main themes.
The Liberals are the last party to release their election platform, and say they were waiting for the day before the election campaign officially kicks off to unveil their plan.
The Progressive Conservatives released their “changebook” platform in May. The NDP’s “Plan For Affordable Change” outlines basic principles but the party says it will spell out its platform in more detail as the campaign progresses.
Number of women candidates touted
Sorbara said the Liberals have now nominated all of its 107 candidates, including 42 women.
“We have completed our nomination process,” said Sorbara. “All 107 candidates are in place. We think it is, to use a baseball expression, a World Series team. This is the best team that we have ever assembled.”
Sorbara, who is seeking re-election in Vaughan, said the number of Liberal women candidates is an increase from previous elections, but didn’t have a specific number.
“It’s been two years, two years of hard work, searching and interviewing and having cups of coffee with potential candidates in every corner of the province,” he said.
