GTA Ridings to Watch

The federal election in May put to bed a truism in Canadian politics in recent years — that the City of Toronto is a Liberal stronghold with isolated pockets of NDP support.

The Liberals lost 13 of the 20 seats they held in Toronto, and all but one of their seats in the 905 area. The Tories, meanwhile, took 29 of the 44 seats in the Greater Toronto Area, with the NDP taking eight seats, all in Toronto.

Will trends in the federal election will carry over to the provincial election on Oct. 6? The answer will be determined by voters in a handful of key ridings across the Greater Toronto Area.
