A worker at a Halifax construction site suffered serious injuries Tuesday evening after a two-tonne motor fell on him.

Capt. Brad Connors, of Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency, said at 1,900 kilogram motor from a construction elevator fell on the man's lower body, pinning him underneath just after 7:15 p.m.

The accident happened at the old Citadel Inn site, where the new hotel is under construction.

Connors said the rescue team of 12 firefighters and emergency crews responded to the scene.

The man, who Connors said was about 44-years-old, was taken to hospital in stable condition but "definitely has some serious injuries."
