Woman on motorized scooter badly injured in collision
50-year-old truck driver said he 'did not see [the woman]' who was crossing on flashing light
A 57-year-old woman on a motorized scooter was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries after she was struck by a half-ton truck in Dartmouth Saturday morning.
The collision happened at the intersection of Thistle Street and Victoria Road at around 11 a.m.
Police said her scooter went right under the wheels of the truck, and the woman was badly injured.
The 50-year-old driver of the truck told CBC News he was preparing to turn left at the intersection. He said the red hand was flashing and several cars made the turn ahead of him. He said when it was his turn to go, he turned and did not see the woman on the scooter.
The driver said physically he's all right but called what happened "terrible" and said he "did not see it, did not see [the woman]."
The incident is still under investigation and no charges have been laid at this time.
