A 31-year-old woman is facing assault charges after she allegedly hit a woman in a wheelchair over the head with a metal pipe Thursday night in Dartmouth.

At 8:25 p.m. Halifax police were called to the corner of Victoria and Albro Lake Road after someone called in a fight between two women.

The fight ended when the one of the women allegedly hit the other woman, who is in a wheelchair, over the head with a pipe. The suspect then ran away on foot.

Police arrived on scene shortly after the incident, found the suspect and arrested her.

The 52-year-old woman who was allegedly assaulted was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The 31-year-old woman is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court Friday to face charges of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon.
