Woman charged with car theft after extended test drive
Halifax woman, 48, facing several charges connected to vehicle theft
A woman who took a luxury vehicle on an extended test drive from a Halifax car dealership this weekend is facing charges.
Halifax Regional Police said that the woman visited a car dealership at 9:15 a.m. Friday on Kempt Road in Halifax and took a high-end SUV for a test drive.
The woman provided valid, out-of-province identification.
When the woman failed to return with the SUV worth more than $50,000, dealership staff contacted police and reported the vehicle as stolen.
Police arrested a 48-year-old Halifax woman on Sunday afternoon at a home on Lady Hammond Road.
The stolen SUV was found nearby and returned to the dealership.
The woman was held in custody overnight and is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court Monday to face a charge of theft of a motor vehicle over $5,000 and five counts of breach of court orders.
