Mayor Mike Savage's Brad Pitt impersonation appears to have paid off, as Halifax won a contest to have a city street repainted.
Savage starred in a YouTube video pushing Halifax's case to win Main Street Matters, a competition among 100 North American communities vying to have paint company Benjamin Moore spruce up a street.
"The toughest thing is the constant comparisons to Brad Pitt," Savage said in the June video. "I know what you're thinking. But the camera adds 10 pounds, and we're using a bunch of cameras."
Pitt's philanthropic organization Make It Right was involved in the contest.
Halifax won the online vote. The city earned a fresh coat of paint for three blocks of "main street."
"The people of Halifax deserve credit for getting behind this fun contest and bringing out a winning vote. Now we can look forward to voting again for our main street," said Savage on Monday.
HRM created a short list of potential streets and wants citizens to vote for a winner.
The streets in the running are:
- Agricola Street
- Argyle Street
- Barrington Street
- Birmingham Street
- Blowers Street
- Herring Cove Road
- Main Street
- Portland Street
- Queen Street
- Quinpool Road
- Sackville Drive
- Spring Garden Road
HRM is taking votes until July 19.
