West Hants CAO accused of hammer attack against husband
Cheryl Chislett charged with assault with a weapon
The CAO of the Municipality of the District of West Hants is accused of attacking her husband with a hammer and is scheduled to appear in court next month.
The charge was laid against Cheryl Chislett, 54, following a weekend altercation.
According to court documents, Chislett's husband, Richard Chislett, was the victim and the weapon was a hammer.
RCMP Sgt. Al LeBlanc said officers from the Windsor detachment were called to a Martock residence around 9:45 a.m. on Saturday to investigate an assault.
He said a 57-year-old man was transported to Hants Community Hospital and was later taken to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax. He has since been released.
A 54-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Chislett is free on a promise to appear in court on July 15.
The Municipality of the District of West Hants cancelled its regular committee meeting on Tuesday night. Its website said the cancellation was due to "recent internal circumstances."
