Canada's volunteer firefighter community is expressing condolences to the family of a fellow volunteer who died in a car accident near New Germany, N.S., on Friday while responding to a call.
Ritchie Jodrey, 60, was on the way to a flooded basement call around 4 a.m. when his vehicle went off the road.
The Canadian Volunteer Fire Services Association offered its support on Facebook.
A private funeral will be held on Tuesday. Jodrey's family said he lived a simple life and the service will reflect that.
The Pinehurst man had been a firefighter since 1991.
