Halifax police have charged a 20-year-old man with sexual assault and issued a warrant for his arrest after a violent attack against a young woman on the Dartmouth Common Saturday night.
Halifax Regional Police have issued an arrest warrant for 20-year-old Caiden Dante Wournell wanted in connection with the violent sex assault against the 17-year-old girl.
Wournell has been charged with sexual assault, robbery and breach of probation.
He is described as a black man, five feet 11 inches tall, 160 pounds with short black hair and brown eyes. He also has a small tear drop tattoo underneath his right eye and a large tattoo on his left forearm.
The events that led to the attack began at the new Dartmouth bus terminal Saturday night where the victim saw the suspect for the first time, she told police.
He started walking with her but when they reached the Dartmouth Common near Alderney Drive and Wyse Road, the victim told police that’s when the situation turned ugly.
“He became violent, grabbed onto her, sexually assaulted her and this sexual assault involved forced penetration,” said Const. Pierre Bourdages in an interview on Monday.
The suspect fled on foot with the victim’s purse and cell phone, both of which were later recovered.
Police are asking anyone with information on Wournell’s whereabouts to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
