Victoria County in Cape Breton wants to bring public transportation to its area, but a new feasibility study has found a scheduled bus service can’t be supported by such a sparse population.
Instead, an on-demand service is being contemplated, one that might involve taxis or a ride-share program.
"So what they are suggesting is kind of a demand-based service,” said Coun. Fraser Patterson, who chairs the county’s Age Friendly Advisory Committee.
“In other words if I had an appointment tomorrow or the next day somewhere I would phone in a certain time before to arrange to get a ride to there.
“That works successfully in some other areas of the province."
