A tractor-trailer crashed into the water Saturday afternoon after its driver lost control near the Seal Island Bridge in Cape Breton.

The driver got out on her own, RCMP say, and was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

"A tractor trailer lost control, went through a guardrail and ended up on its side in the water," RCMP Cpl. Scott MacRae said.

Police said the truck was not carrying dangerous goods, but measures are being taken to contain any diesel fuel that might be leaking.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
