A teenaged boy from the Potlotek First Nation has died after a crash in Cape Breton that sent six young people to hospital last week.

Allan Lafford, 17, died on Monday as a result of injuries sustained in Friday's crash, said Richmond County RCMP.

RCMP say the single-vehicle crash happened around 11 p.m. on Smith Road in Grand River.

The vehicle's six passengers, ranging in age from 13 to 22, were all taken to the Strait Richmond Hospital. Five of them were released.

Lafford was later airlifted to Halifax's Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre, where he died on Monday.
