Teenage driver pleads guilty in fatal Richmond County crash
Allan Lafford of Chapel Island died in June 2013
A 16-year-old girl has pleaded guilty for her part in a fatal car crash that killed a 17-year-old boy in Richmond County in June.
The girl, who cannot be identified because of her age, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to careless driving and operating a vehicle with too many passengers.
A third charge — operating a vehicle without a licensed driver in the passenger seat — was dropped.
The 16-year-old was driving a car with five passengers on board when they crashed on Smith Road in Grand River on the night of June 21, 2013.
They were all between the ages of 13 and 22.
All six people were taken to the Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston and one of them — Allan Lafford of Chapel Island — was later airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax.
He died of his injuries a few days later.
The girl is due back in Port Hawkesbury provincial court for sentencing on May 15.
