Teen charged with arson in Portland Street fire
Police called to Dartmouth building on break and enter call when they noticed smoke
A 16-year-old boy faces arson and break and enter charges in connection with a fire in Dartmouth, N.S., Wednesday evening.
Halifax police said they were called to the 300 block of Portland Street around 5:05 p.m. about a break and enter in progress. They had arrested a teenager in the area when then noticed smoke pouring out of the Portland Arms building.
Crews needed about 15 minutes to put out the flames.
Police said everyone in the three-storey building managed to get out safely.
Investigators said they’ll return to the scene Thursday morning to figure out what caused the fire.
The teen is also accused of violating his probation. He is set to appear in youth court on Thursday.
