Halifax Regional Police have charged a 17-year-old with criminal negligence causing death after a head-on crash that killed Wayne Webber, 71, in Dartmouth.

The crash happened on Main Street near Caledonia Road at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, June 24.

Police say the 17-year-old was driving west when he crossed two lanes of eastbound traffic when he hit Webber’s vehicle. Police said speed was a factor.

The drivers were the only two people involved in the crash. The 17-year-old was taken to hospital and released. Webber was also sent to hospital but later died of his injuries.

The teen was charged Tuesday with criminal negligence causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death. He’s been released from custody.  He's scheduled to be in youth court on Oct. 17.
