Two teenage girls face charges after one of them allegedly threatened a security guard with a knife at the Mayflower Mall in Sydney on Tuesday.

A security guard told Cape Breton Regional Police he was trying to stop a 15-year-old girl he believed was shoplifting. While he was struggling with the teen, police allege a 13-year-old girl arrived, took out a knife and threatened him.

Staff Sgt. Max Sehl says the teens ran out of the mall. Police later picked them up in the parking lot.

No one was injured.

"They were shook up, the people working or being in the area there. But other than that, no — everything worked out well at the end of it," Sehl said.

The 13-year-old girl is facing several charges including possession of a weapon, theft and uttering threats. The 15-year-old girl is charged with theft and uttering threats.
