A taxi driver was assaulted early Sunday morning after pulling over to pick up a woman looking for a cab, according to Halifax Regional Police.

The problems began at Pizza Corner around 5 a.m. When the cab stopped, the woman was quickly joined by another woman and three men who jumped in the cab. The five asked to be taken to Dartmouth.

The driver told police the group demanded money from him as he was driving along Victoria Road. They asked him to pull over but he kept going.

Police said that’s when the group started assaulting the driver. He stopped the vehicle at the corner of Victoria Road and Albro Lake Road, and the driver fled the taxi.

The group then drove off in the cab, which was later abandoned on Wyse Road.

Police are now on the hunt for three men and two women. One of the women was wearing black and white pants.

The taxi driver, who police said is 35-years-old, had minor injuries. No money was stolen.
